A PENGUIN ON A POGO STICK NewZletter N°1- 30/9/97 Ev HI FRIENDS! Welcome to the first issue of this newsletter with my own version of the UK tour I've just survived... I'm sorry for my not perfect English, I'm not very well skilled to the WEB media yet, but I'll try to improve it. I'll tell you more about this newsletter when I'll have more spare time in the second issue. This first issue will be mailed mostly to friends, if it reach people I don't know who's disturbed in some way, just let me know and I'll take you out from the mailing list. If there are people other friends of your which can be interested, just let me know. These pages have been written after my come back from the ORIGAMI REPLIKA/LASSE MARHAUG BAND/WERTHAM tour. ORIGAMI REPLIKA is the most noisy side of the well known Norwegian art collective that count more than 100 persons around the world, for further infos and newsletter you can write to Tore thboe@online.no and ask him directly about philosophy and future projects... Anyway one day or the other I'll make him a long interview... LASSE MARHAUG is one of the most interesting noise breeder of Norway, devoted to noise wall sounds and weird feedback cut ups. WERTHAM is my own project, but in this tour I've just been the voice (when there was enough volume) of Lasse's sound violence. I haven't been sure to take part to this event till the last days; the fucking English pound had become so high that I had to borrow money from my girlfriend to stay safe. Anyway after having the air ticket in my hand, I had the impression that the worth vacancies I've worked for was on its way, and so, on September the 3rd, after a boring airplane journey with Hawaii shirts dressed Germans, I arrive in London, the biggest European supermarket! I arrive at VICTORIA STATION where the two Norwegians have been waiting for me for some time. I note various things. They seems to be very affable, they are blonde, tall and beautiful as two real Vikings, Lasse is bigger than what I've imagined in the 6 years we've been in contact. We go at Guglielmo's place where we spent all the time we've been in London listening lots of noise and interesting subjects as sex, pain, noise, political correctness, the Italian situation, the fashionable new left trend, etc. At the same place lives Gaia a really affable Italian girl who has been our mommy in that house... I don't know how to thank Guglielmo and Gaia! I love and miss them! I can't wait to come back in London and spend more time with them... On the 4th we leave for Leeds for the first show. That day I lived the most boring experience of the tour. The bus is crowded, the two Norwegian seats themselves on the back of the bus, I have to stay with a Turkish woman with child on her legs. No speaking, nothing to read and a old woman farting and feeling herself sick for four hours, a really cathartic experience and the only moment of depression during the whole tour. Arrived in Leeds I note the very big black church that reminds very much the Addams' Mansion... Anyway Pig arrives at COACH STATION in 20 minutes and we go at his place; here we spend most of our time. Pig is crazy! Great affable guy, we share a lot of interest in the same movies, hardcore punk, G.G.ALLIN and we watch a wonderful DEVO video I've been looking for years. He cover us of presents and then we meet some people of SMELL & QUIM and the mysterious COSMONAUTS HAIL SATAN dressed like Yuri Gagarin meets Anton La Vey and discuss about the role of Satanism in the conqueror of the Milky way. The following day is spent going around for LEEDS with Tore and Lasse to buy Flowers candies and Clean film. I love that city, really proletarian houses as in tons of English movie! I want to go back there. Here I can get deeper in knowledge with the two Norwegians... Lasse tapes every sound and bullshit we say and we discuss a lot about movies, music, etc... On the evening we arrive at the place, a typical English pub as those who are really fashionable here in Pizzaland. The room is not very big and there are chairs and tables everywhere, pretty different than what I'm used in Italy and Germany. Lots of friends and idols come at the show (about 50/60 persons if I'm not wrong). People in EXPOSE YOUR EYES, DOGLIVEROIL, SMELL & QUIM and naturally the gods of Power Electronics Mike (CON-DOM) and Dave (THE GREY WOLVES) at the moment my biggest influences both musically then as in interests. Anyway THE HEADLESS PISS opened the show by, Pig's noise project with three guitars and drums. They remind me the end of a rock'n' roll song turned to mess for 20 minutes and over! Great! Neil of SMELL & QUIM is guest star on guitar and violin.... It's our turn, the voice got fucked up after five minutes seen that the microphone started making feedback and I had to do my best without microphone. I end the show wrapped up in clear film for food, helped by Paul EXPOSE YOUR EYES and getting beaten by Lasse. Neil of SMELL AND QUIM shouted something like FUCK HIM IN THE ASS! Some person in the crowd not involved in power noise was amazed and told me that they never saw anything like this... They couldn't imagine what was going to happen. While I was talking with Dave and Mike, Tore got on stage naked to perform his ultra-violent and at the same time sweet show. He went around and gives candies, flowers, and kisses while the techno/power beats were pure sheer violence! At the end of the show me and Lasse went on stage, shouting, making noises and whipping Tore's back with my belt. He then catch me and try to French kiss me, but feeling my resistance he have more luck with Dave, under the atonished face of his girlfriend... Anyway now I'm sure to be a boring sexually straight hetero... After the show we had lots of Indian food at Pig's place where Smell & Quim, totally drowning in Alchol, performed a pornographic voice/guitarblues who got taped together with a surrealistic interview with Mike Dando. Before going to bed we find the strength to go at some skater's place where we have lots of fun painting on Smell & Dave's head and discussing about sex and politic with Neil. Some hours later, after a little sleep, we are at Mike Dando's place trading records, drinking tea and playing with his wonderful child Alex. I had no voice left and anyone was laughing at me... This just because I'm little, ugly and Italian... The following day we came back in London with some traffic due to LADY DI-ANAL's funeral... Arrived in London we meet Martin (ORIGAMI BALLISTIKA), cut-up addicted and Scandinavian answer to the Latin lover archetype. On the 7th we performed at the ASTORIA as ORIGAMI REPLIKA as support for the Neubaten with more than 2000 persons... Wow, we made a short Death/Industrial Ambient set very different by the one we were supposed to do, but it worked and people seemed to enjoy. After us played THE EVIL MOTHER, who will be surely enjoyed by all those who listen to this new metal/industrial stuff. I enjoyed very much the last three songs, with lots of industrial drumming (a bit like LES TAMBURE DU BRONXE) and great action on stage. I've never enjoyed the Neubaten and I'm not the best person to criticize them, but they've been really affable and gentle with us, especially their new member Ash who broke the ice and spent lots of time with us. Musically I was bit bored and I went around making new friends. After the show we've chat a lot with many persons, especially with the great guys of EVIL MOTHER. Great people! Lasse and Tore knew Klaus Maek (we played there thanks to him) and the guy of MUTE. The following day we've been around London, before leaving for NEWCASTLE were we arrive at half past midnight after a great travel talking about movie, Maggie Chung, sex and Luca, a friend of mine who've been for some time at Lasse's place breaking furniture and reading books. We get at Paddy and Lisa's place. Here we found once again great people even if more quiet than the crazies in Leeds do. Due to the very different accent I have lots of problems to understand everything, but I survive. The guys here are very different from Leeds one. All quiet, with glasses, less wilder, quieter, but great people anyway! They fill us of food and tapes and we go to sleep. After one day spent with Lee of CULVER hanging around for the "usual" records and videos, we arrive at the place of the show were WHITEHOUSE already played some time ago. There was something like 16 persons, but it has been our favorite show... CULVER started the mess. I don't know why but I was expecting something really guitar oriented, and I was wrong... Not completely seen that the effectively played a guitar, but using a little recorder on the cord and some timbales! It kicked the shit out of us, fucking great stuff!!! Expect a release on SOFFITTA MACABRA later this year! Great!!!! It's our turn, Lasse and me was pretty afraid due to some terrible feedback coming out form the microphone. The show was less noisy and more power electronic oriented, the voice was better, but I tried to do a less angry/more-depressed voice than usual. I wrapped my face in the usual plastic film for food and after a while Lasse kicked the shit out of me. I hit my head on the floor and this left me a headache till the last day in London. Origami jump on Stage (this time dressed), he start his "typical" excellent techno industrial power violence, with lots of voice this time. Tore destroyed everything around him, then bring Martin and start French kissing him, open his trousers and take his dick in his mouth! Fucking Hell! He won also this time!!! The people was really happy and friendly, we come back at Paddy's place and I die in my bed while the other discuss in their weird Newcastle language... The following day we leave for LONDON after going around with Paddy and Lee, seeing a little modern art exposition and the notorious last Merz Bau in a bigger showroom. Back in London, after a quarrel between me and Lasse concerning PIZZA and PASTA (I was on the Pasta side, something that you can eat everyday without having heart attack), we arrive at Guglielmo's place were we meet with other great people, new and old. The following days are spent around for porno shops, record stores, Indian restaurants, Fuckingham Palace, the Big Beng, Piccadilly Circus, etc... Everywhere is full of Lady D pictures, t-shirts and gadgets, one of the most cynical merchandising I've ever seen... I think this death has been the best thing could happen to the Royal Family to gain appreciation by English people. Anyway I don't give a fuck... On the 13th, after a great visit at the AQUARIUM, where both Lasse and me would like to work, we are ready for the last show in a squat. We arrive there very early and I start crying due to my dust allergy. After hours of wait the guys of the service/sound system don't arrive. When Cecilia, a close friend of mine form Rome, we go around and eat something, when I come back the service arrives as Richard Leviathan of STRENGHT THROUGH JOY/DEATH IN JUNE do... I'm very happy he came, we spent three great days together in Rome and Turin during his last tour in Italy. We talk a lot and have fun. We open the show and start making messes, the guy at the mixer keep the voice down, we asked him to rise my voice, but he seemed to don't listen me, so I have to shout loud with no microphone with the consequences you can imagine. This time we've been able to use the video I did at my place, with police riot, handgun safety, and surgical stuff. We had fun; Lasse kicked me also this time. Lots of people was around the place many projects were supposed to play, but most of the people seemed to be more into drugs (never seen so many fucking smugglers in one time in the same place) and techno than noise, anyway it was good. Lots of stuff followed; both DJ's than projects (especially an excellent French power noise group who had the same problems with the guy at the mixer which was suppose to be on coke), but I went around with Richard in Brixton discussing really interesting things which I'd like to get deeper in future maybe in a long feature interview for my new magazine. We've been waiting some hours to perform as ORIGAMI but the techno guys of the place delayed us really late. TORE, Martin and Lasse get ready and start, but the asshole at the mixer slow down the volumes, after about 10/16 minutes Tore switch off smiling and he decided to stop due to the boycott action of the guy at the mixer. I took some funny pamphlets in which some anarco-antifa group was saying that both Anarco-Libertarian writer Bob Black than the well known Hakim Bey were nazi... Never stop political correctness! After some hours, while a Guglielmo's speaker got fucked up, we salute each other and go back to sleep. The following day before leaving, I meet again with Cecilia and buy some books. At the airport I knew a wonderful Italian girl, the perfect copy Beatrice "Betty Blue" Dalle. We come back together and we have some fun, especially when she got shocked by the books I was reading. The tour hasn't finished as we hoped, but it was a great adventure. This is a very sad communication and a sort of excuse letter... Till now we've worked with theatres, small TV companies, writers, radio programs, etc. It's the name we us also to produce video bootlegs of extreme documentaries and tapes of industrial/weird projects. WERTHAM Is my own power electronics project. till now I've release a split tape with ORIGAMI REPLIKA, a full length tape for MURDER RELEASE and some tunes for different compilation. Actually I'm working on a couple of 7"s and tapes. I'll tell you more in future. Anyway my interests are the same of thousands other projects (tactics, political incorrectness, cultural terrorism, AND BLA BLA BLA) and the main inspiration are CON-DOM, THE GREY WOLVES, THE SODALITY, ANENZEPHALIA, IUGULA-THOR, etc... FORESTA DI FERRO Is our less extreme, more "ritual" (but still very rational) project... It has existed for 3 years, but is very slow... So it's possible you'll forget this name before we get out from the darkness. FRATERNITAS FENRIR Is our most riskfull project who made us worth 2 years of police mail control ... We organize demonstration with weird/extreme stuff (like anti-Xian flyers outside churches, anti feminist stuff on the 8th of March, etc.). We research everything which is dangerous, politically incorrect, extreme, for the creation of a real extreme library. What we are mostly interested are videos... Ask list for trades! We'll keep you updated with our actions... WOLF AGE Wolf Age is not an organization in which I'm involved, but sometime I help them in the organization of shows. Till now we've done, SOL INVICTUS, DEATH IN JUNE/NON etc, and TONY WAKEFORD's solo show... They are now going to start a record label (WOLF AGE RECORDS) with really interesting big names of the so called apocalypse folk, ritual scene... I'll tell you more in future... My PC seems to work now, and I'm very busy working with my job and my personal web site, which will be pretty rough, but I hope useful for the interested. Not all the software problems are solved any way so don't send me fax. Well, let's start with the next productions. In the next week we'll have ready some new tapes: -BAD SECTOR - Handmade cover, limited edition of 60 of the best new Italian experimental project. For those who don't know them, they build impressive walls of sounds married with more melodic/obscure atmospheres... The only way to describe them is to think about being in the very deep of an Ocean and watching sirens and creatures of the underworld dancing and moving really slowly... They work with weird instruments and old valves. Hurry up in ordering this because it will be finished in a short time. Be ready for an interview with them. -LUNUS- L - LOCH- Posthumous work of this beloved Italian project who wrote some interesting pages of the Industrial/Experimental history. Devis G. here works with some of his best tunes ever. the sound is really dark and ritual and will be enjoyed by all the freaks who liked their earlier work and the more obscure COLD MEAT INDUSTRY stuff. Some of the stuff on this tape is the excellent soundtrack of the V.I.T.R.I.O.L. video. Each tape will costs L12000 (Ita)/ L13.000 (ECU)/L14.000 (World/AIR MAIL) In a couple of weeks will be out the long awaited (by us) split tape "WOMANHOOD" featuring WERTHAM and DISCORDANCE in a very special package and booklet. The concept is about feminism and the so called idea of PENETRATIVE SEX as the last fascist action. We will do a special limited edition for feminist organisation, give us addressed and advice about group of people like this who could go upset with it. We still have to decide how limited will be (I suppose 100). Anyway both DISCORDANCE than WERTHAM play power electronics. I'll tell you more when out. Price will be as above. I'm slowing doing the plans about my proper record label named OPERATION MIRANDA. The first record should be the WERTHAM/MARHAUG collaboration LP. More noise oriented than the usual WERTHAM stuff and more power electronics of the unusual LASSEMARHAUG previous stuff. It's the documentation of the little UK tour we had this summer you've read in the first issue of my newsletter. It will be very limited and will be co-produced with Lasse's own record label JAZZASSIN. In early 1998 will be out, I hope, the new MURDER CORPORATION 10", which is really violent, in his best style. I'm also doing a little effort for another little label dedicated to ritual/neo-folk which will work in close contact with the friends of WOLF AGE RECORDS (Rome), with whom we've organised DEATH IN JUNE/NON and SOL INVICTUS 's last Italian tours. Nome of the label should be chosen, but it will be really trendy. The first record should be of a really important person, but I prefer to wait to tell you anything before the project doesn't evolve. It's possible that in the next months, my beloved German label MEMBRUM DEBILE PROPAGANDA, will put out a WERTHAM 7": Here you'll can taste the sexier side of my little creature. Depla A PENGUIN ON A POGO STICK NewZletter N°3- 9/11/97 Ev Hello friends, This a really fast and disorganized report of the trip in Germany we've just survived. 1/11/97 SKALD + SOL INVICTUS Schloss Dachau - Dachau + MOTHER DESTRUCTION Ballroom - Esterhofen Me and Luca (FORESTA DI FERRO/FRATERNITAS FENRIR most beautiful, shy and romantic member) left Italy on Saturday morning for Dachau. After some hours of car we arrive without problems at the place. The Schloss is a big typical German castle, with a very big cafeteria and a room for classical music shows. It's very different from the squats we are used to show in Italy. Maybe we are becoming older, but that's nearer to our conception of showroom. The lovely Kerstin and other organisers of PAGAN MUZAK tell us that the show will start at 7:00 PM so we have the time to walk around the city looking for a telephone box without the fucking card while the people look us as we are Martians. Back at the place we get into this wonderful castle, with neo-classical paintings of Greek Pagan Gods... What a perfect atmosphere for the gods of Pagan neo/folk (and not neo-pagan trendies). The show has been opened by SKALD, a French duo with SOWILLA at the voice and JAUFRÉ DARROUX on the harp. Really sweet and traditional melodies, but not what I'm more interested to see live... Sorry, but I prefer to listen this kind of stuff at home while I work. Not my cup of tea. Anyway they haven't played too much so no one got bored. Just a couple of minutes to take a breath and SOL INVICTUS get on stage with the following line up: MATT HOWDEN violin SALLY DOHERTY flute voice JAUFRÉ DARROUX drums harp SOWILLA voice drums And naturally Tony Wakeford, creator of the perfect soundtracks of my best journeys through Europe. Tony has just been in Italy for two solo shows with Italian musicians like GREGORIO BARDINI (ex Kino Glaz, etc. and author of EURASIA CD and a great book about music in shamanic rites ). I gave a little hand to organise the show and I was supposed to meet Tony both in Rome than Trieste, but my PC got fucked up and nothing happened for me (but the mini tour went well). It seems that Matt and Sally are now stable members of SOL, they are on all the last Wakeford's Cds and they already toured this year with him (we saw them when we've organised the Italian tour some months ago). At the start what really disturbed me was Sowilla voice, a bit out of tone respect Sally sweet little bird like one. Anyway the show after this not convincing start, left me really satisfied... The tracks were taken mostly from the latest stuff (among which I noted especially LAWS AND CROWNS, my favourite track of the last SOL INVICTUS CD "THE BLADE")... And then new and old classics: IN EUROPA, THE DEATH OF THE WEST, HERE AM I, AGAINST THE MODERN WORLD... Yes... Fantastic... Being it a whole acoustic evening it has been really different from Turin but the mood and the feelings of the evening were at the top.... I loved it! After a short talk with Tony, we leave for ESTERHOFEN where we lose loose ourselves in the fields after a car crash who interrupted the street... Anyway we found the right way and reach the BALLROOM to see MOTHER DESTRUCTION... Well I wasn't expecting anything from this show and it has been even worse... Nothing personal, but it has been really boring... Luckily we met Silvio of MEMBRUM DEBILE PROPAGANDA and his great friend Tom and have lots of fun till 8:30 in the morning in the Ballroom together with that wonderful creature named Kerstin... It's useless to say that the following day we were really tired and the traumatic travel back to Italy has been done with both of us really angry for the Italian third world like situation... MILITIA One of the best project I've discovered in the last two/three years is MILITIA. They hail form Hoeselt (Belgium) and play godly rhythmical industrial music. I have their great split tape with CON-DOM on Old Europa Cafè, the Double Lp + 12" "New European Order" and the Excellent Mcd "Kingdom of our Lord/Maschinenzimmer", both on PRAXIS DR. B., one of my favourite European label (needles to say that the other ones are TESCO, LOKI FOUNDATION/POWER AND STEEL, CTHULU and MEMBRUM DEBILE PROPAGANDA). I wrote them some months go and yesterday I've got this interesting letter from Frank. "... Now we're finishing the last recordings for our new CD (to be released by Praxis) called "Nature Revealed" that will deal with our eco-anarchist views on society and is a basic sound-scape for the new Utopia we defend. The five tracks are called AER (AIR), AQUA (WATER), IGNIS (FIRE), TERRA (EARTH) and SYMBIOSIS, and in all tracks we build the music upon a soundtrack that consists of natural sounds, using also self made installations of wood, iron, sand... To do the percussion-parts with, mixed with primitive and organic wind instruments. In the 13th of December we will play this piece in a theatre in Belgium and do a live recording, so finally it will be released as a double CD- one studio version and one (different) live version. It will be packed in wood, with primitive artefacts. Now we're with 6 people in the band, 5 guys and one girl, all playing several instruments during this concert. Praxis told us it all will go in production as soon as the tapes are ready, so this means they'll start end of December with the production of the CD's, but as we will do the handmade packaging ourselves, I expect to to be ready in March. Now I'm also writing the music for our following project, called "The black flag hoisted", about anarchism, composed much like traditional classical music, but repetitive and more in the style of "New European Order", so now I'm writing some of the string-parts and percussion-patterns (I do this in a combination of classical music notes and my own symbols) and some lines for the wind-instruments, which will be played from samples onto the basic tape, but it's possible we'll use a trumpet and fagot player when recording in the studio. Praxis told us they will release this as well, in fact we've connected all our activities to the Praxis label so they have the right of getting our DAT tapes first and eventually releasing our music, it's just great working with them. I guess this project will be released around September '98 or so, so a lot of work to do. In the meantime we agreed to do a few concerts in Germany and Holland, and for the rest, well, we'll see what the future brings..." So welcome to this short issue of my Newzletter... Well I want to start this article with a very sad new.... But I leave the word to my friend Lasse Marhaug (ask his newsletter lmarhaug@online.no): SVERRE is Dea "... it's very sad for me to inform you all that Sverre H.Kristensen, danish/norwegian comix book artist, magazine editor and film-maker died last week. Sverre had been battling with bloodcancer for several years, and after surviving the first attack in '96 he seemed well (and did the artwork for my "We Hate You" compilation), but it didn't last, and Sverre died last week, at age 31. Sverre was a hugely talented artist, who had an incredibly intense visual style and a twisted sense of humour. he published several comix (a 64 comic-book called "Bad Pills", dealing with his disease and is sort-of a biography, will be published on an american publishing company very shortly), magazines (most know for Sewer Cunt) and several films (most know being the Manson cut-up doc. Here you'll find all the best tracks of the most controversial European project, WHITE POWER FORCE, HAIL AMERIKA, VIVE LA GUERRE, DEATH TO CHINE III, and many others... 17 masterpieces of modern day intense and obsessive power electronics. Once again I can tell you that DEAH SQUAD is one of the most interesting power electronics project in Yankeeland and we share many philosophical points and views. I think it can be really interesting: GLOBAL ANNIHILATION TOUR 1998 Death Squad & Chapter 23 (from San Francisco) are planning a tour of the United States and Europe set for September and October of 1998. With the possibility of being joined by HYDRA of New York (ex Final Solution member Greg Scott) . We will be travelling across the states for approximately one week. Then fly to Iceland and then on to England and travel throughout Europe. We are hoping to be able to do 2 to 4 weeks worth of shows while in Europe , depending on the interest and shows we are able to set up. We are looking to do shows in any type of venue available : art galleries , clubs , record stores , radio stations , schools etc. etc. No place is too small. If at all possible we would like to be able to request guarantees at these locations as to the high cost of travelling. However this is not always required and we are always interested to be able to play regardless of the money situation. Our audio visual presentations will vary from show to show. Included will be video projections and performance art. Also hopefully we will have a few completed original film shorts to screen whenever possible. Our goal will be not to repeat any of the shows . Making each one an individual and unique experience. The sounds as well vary in structure from extremely deep atmospheric sound-scapes to harsh loud abrasive walls of noise and vocals. A sample of our works are also included. We are also looking for places to stay while travelling. This would be gratefully appreciated. After touring Europe we are planning an additional tour back across the United States to California. Thus completing the second leg of Death Squad's Millenium Projekt (more information in the Death Squad section). This tour will mark the second time that Death Squad & Chapter 23 have toured together. The first being during Death Squad's US tour in 1997 completing around 60 shows across the country over roughly a 5 month period. Chapter 23 accompanied Death Squad for around 7 shows and has been extremely motivational and inspirational to the continuation of this projekt. This tour will be in support of Chapter 23's first cd release currently untitled as well as Death Squad's second cd also currently untitled. High quality works as his usual in a new form for Italian public normally used to his black and white works published in Pizzaland.
